Will 2020 top 2019?

2019 was another incredible year in Hip-hop. It was monumental in the release of several new albums from Gang Starr, Black Moon, and Smif N Wessun. Your Old Droog gave us incredible music. Skyzoo & Pete Rock linked up for a modern day classic. Exile returned to form with “Black Beans” with Choosey. Lyrical legend Wordsworth teamed up with Pearl Gates and Quincy Tones for a dope album. Knowledge the Pirate surprised us with one of the best albums of the year. Little Brother and Rhapsody gave us excellent projects. Apollo Brown found every rapper in Detroit and made them all sound great on one album. Evidence crafted some of his best beats to date for Brother Ali’s newest effort. The list of dope boom bap Hip-hop in 2019 was long and I suspect it will grow longer in 2020.

Already we have a dope little album from Stu Bangas and it hasn’t even been a week! We might get a new album from Black Star produced entirely by Madlib. Speaking of the legendary beatsmith, he has teamed up with his brother, Oh No and they are scheduled to release an album later this month! We are also scheduled to get a new album from Royce da 5’9 and I’m sure you’ve seen the tweets and post about LL Cool J’s new album with production from Q-Tip! Is 2020 fixing up to be even better than 2019? Maybe so! We’ll be here digging through it all and sharing what we find!

Here’s to another great year in Hip-hop as we hope for another.

Peace,

MC Till
